Thanet Schools Young Artist’ Competition 2017
Another very successful Arts competition this year with over seven hundred wonderful pictures. The theme of ‘The Simple Pleasures of Life’ proved to be inspiring and this was evident in the beautiful images produced by the children.
Many thanks to the organiser particularly Brian Homewood , Pat Buckley , Steve Alexander and Ray Holdstock as well as the teachers who encouraged so many children to take part
A huge thank you to all the judges and supporters.

Annual Schools Art Competition 2016
The Rotary Club of Margate teamed up with Sainsbury’s Store at Westwood Cross to host the “Thanet Schools Young Artists Competition & Exhibition” which ran for three days from Friday 13th May to Sunday 15th May.
Thirty one Thanet schools exhibited 500 individual paintings, created by the pupils of Thanet schools from the age of four to eighteen. Tasked with this year’s theme of “British Values”, the competition has showcased an array of vibrant and eye-catching artwork inspired by the young people’s free interpretation.
The official opening and prize giving took place on Saturday (14th May) by Rotary Club of Margate President Stephen Askew assisted by special guest Tom Yendell (Internationally renowned member of the Mouth and Foot Professional Artist Trust) and Rotary District Vice Governor Carol Vizzard.
Prizes were presented to winners in each of the Age groups The winners of the prize for Best in show went to 16 year old Bryn Ravensdale of Laleham Gap School.
Many local businesses generously sponsored the event. Sainsbury’s gave gift vouchers to all the winners, The Mouth & Foot Artists Trust sponsored by supplying vouchers for Best in show and they gave special award vouchers to all five special needs schools that took part to encourage children attending these schools to take up art. All the winning paintings will be on display at Lovely’s Art Shop and Gallery in Northdown road, Cliftonville from the 20th May for one week. They also gave vouchers to enable these pictures to be framed.
Rotary Club of Margate President Stephen Askew said it is a pleasure to see the Thanet Schools Young Artist Competition, now in its tenth year, grow in support from the schools with pupils exhibiting such a high standard of paintings. The judges congratulated the children on the high standard of the art and said how difficult it was to select the winners.
We would like to thank Sainsbury’s for giving us the opportunity to allow the Rotary Club of Margate to exhibit the artistic talents of the young people of Thanet and the schools for encouraging the students to take part. Meeting the public during the exhibition and the encouraging comments were really appreciated. We hope that more schools next year will see this as an opportunity to promote the talent of Thanet’s young artists to the general public.
